Peacemaker Kurogane, Tetsunosuke and Tatsunosuke name meanings?

Can someone tell me what their names mean? Does it have to due with Tatsunosuke sometimes being called Dragon Boy and Tetsunosuke being called Iron Boy?|||Tetsu means Iron.

Tatsu means Dragon.

Nosuke means Ending.|||Yes. Tetsu = iron and tatsu = dragon, and -nosuke is a historical/traditional name ending.

Which name meanings do you like better?

If you know what the names are, don't take that into perspective, just focus on the meanings(: thanks!

- lily meadow

- gracious star of the sea|||gracious star of the sea for sure! its mystical and intriguing, and puts a very very pretty image in my head :)

when you pick a best answer, could you share with us what the names are??|||Gracious star of the sea is very interesting and I find it better and more exciting, although either would be fine.|||Both meanings are very pretty. I think my favorite is gracious star of the sea because it just reminds me of something that would be so beautiful!|||Lily meadow sounds like it would be the most beautiful, serene place on earth. :)|||Gracious Star of the Sea sounds awesome, mysterious, and cool!|||Gracious star of the sea is very interesting and beautiful! What do you think of name meanings being nicknames?

I.E margret equals pearl|||Wouldn't work for me. Samantha means listener, and I don't think that makes a good nickname. I prefer Sam. Great idea with Pearl, though!|||It's a neat idea but you'll have to explain the meaning to anyone who asks.|||I like the idea!!!!|||that's cool

How can I mix different words to make a name which has the combined meanings of the "ingredient" words?

For example, let's say I wanted to make a name (as in a name one would give to a person) by combining two or more different words, so that the name had the all the meanings of each word combined (perhaps into a phrase) and have a few letters from each word? Is there any sort of program which can do this?

Thanks|||I think I know what you're looking for, but I've never been able to find a generator that did exactly that. Making do with what is available depends on how you are going to use the names or words you come up with.

You might be able to find a word scramble generator that will let you enter parts of words and produce a list of combinations, but you will have to approach it as though you are creating a puzzle. A domain name generator (like the one below) might let you play with parts of words a little, but to a limited extent. I'd also recommend trying unique baby name generators (on sites for expectant parents), or, better yet, one that is meant to help writers or rpg fans make up character and place names; any of those might have generators or combination techniques that can help.

Really, the easiest way to play with custom combinations is by hand. Just write out parts of the words you're considering on little slips of paper and mix them up. Say them out loud and keep moving them around until you find something that sounds good to you. It's easy, quick, free, and might be just the thing to help you think of what you want.

Once you have some combinations that you like, it's time to do some research. Look in dictionaries for similar words. Enter them in search engines. See if they're similar to an unfamiliar term, or mean something in another language. See what's out there!

If you're really concerned about keeping the meanings of the words you combine, make sure you understand their etymological roots. I hope you find what you're looking for! :)

Where do name meanings come from?

So Andrew means "warrior", and Amanda means "fit to be loved". Seriously, unless it's a translation from another language or something, then it doesn't actually mean anything, right?|||It really varies.

Some are biblical, some are literal translations, some are linked with people (such as queens or kings)

I named my son Jacob. Because its a biblical name, its meaning is "deceiver, the son of Isaac" Deceiver because of what he did to his twin brother in the bible, and he was the son of Isaac in the bible.

My daughter, Leila - her name means Night Beauty. But in Hawaii a Lei is a necklace. So no idea where the whole night beauty thing came from, logically it should have just been translated.|||Pretty much. But it could also be idiomatic, euphemistic, slang, association, etc. Eleanor is said to mean pity by some. That was because Eleanor of Aquitaine was to be pitied for the tragedies in her life.....

I narrowed it down. Pick your top 2 out of these baby name meanings?

Where can i find a great place to look up name meanings?

i want to look up the meaning of my last name (which is Portune) because i've been told that it means many things and that it comes from many places. i've found a few sites but the closest to my name that i can get is Porter.|||Look up baby name sites, and name meaning sites on google.

Help us find an old fashioned name with no religious meanings?

My husband and I are expecting our first child together. We're very fortunate that we have similar taste in names. We like older classics that aren't very popular. My husband has had some bad experiences with religion as a child, and is adamant that none of the names we choose have religious meanings. Sadly, this rules out our favourite name: Theodore.

Could you please help us find names that have a similar "feel" to Theodore, but don't have religious or supernatural meanings.|||No offense but that's a little close-minded regarding your husband. No religious meanings because he had a bad experience with some sort of religion? Doesn't mean all religion is bad, and doesn't mean he can't just ignore it when it comes to naming his child. I think if you both love Theodore, you shouldn't just not use it because it has a religious meaning.

However, here are some other ideas anyway...

Charles "Free"

Felix "Happy, prosperous"

Leo / Leon "Lion"

Jasper - a precious stone

Constantine "Steadfast"

Ari "Eagle"

Russell "Little red"

Maxwell "Maccus's stream"

Aurelia "Golden"

Charlotte "Little and womanly"

Audrey "Noble"

Scarlett - red color

Aurora "Dawn"

Constance "Steadfast"|||It can be tough to find a name with no connection to religon. You might want to look at Scottish or Irish names as they often came from locations and occupations instead of religous themes. Theodore is one of my personal favs too. I also love Angus - different, older, an english derivative of Aonghus, the celtic version of cupid. (If you are the nickname type, the nickname is Gus). Another name that I like is Justin, which I think means Justice or something similar. I also like Douglas and I don't think it has any religous connotations. Try behindthenames.com for some ideas, its a great site.|||Am I just listing boy names?

I'll list both. Now I have no idea if these have religious meanings and I think that is a ridiculous reason to avoid a name because of a "bad experience" but anyways..

If name meanings were always mirrored in the person's personality what would my host family be like?

I'm going to an au pair next week for 12 months, but if name meanings were accurate in the person's characteristics, what would each person in my host family be like?

Mum: Norah

Dad: Simon

Daughter: Chloe

Son: Jacob

Daughter: Delilah

Me: Cicily|||According to the "Secret Universe Of Names" Book by Roy Feinson

Norah- An authorative person with strong paternal (not maternal) bent. Even though they have agood sense of humor they are so focused on getting the job done they dont have much time for lifes more genteel pleasures. Norahs are hard to offend they have very thick skin. They are very steady and purposeful with their two feet planted firmly to the ground. Norahs turn into super hero mode when a loved one is in need of assistance. They may not be very exciting but they are extroidanrly protective.

Simon- Quirky person who make lasting impressions. And have a very charming sense of humor. Very senisable, wise and ultracomplex. Simon is more likely to be observers more the doers and it shows in they way they accumalate data about their surroundings and use the information to futher their goals. Simon is so confident about his understanding of how the world works he oftens comes across as a little smug.

Chloe-Fastidious about her apperance Chloe likes to keep physically fit and well groomed. Chloe's fondness for petty details can border on the obsessive and while it may drive every body nuts it also would make her a wonderful doctor or lawyer. Chloe should not be provoked, they maybe patient and hopitable but she is no pushover. If you aren't willing to pay attention to her then its best not to get involved.

Jacob- Jacob is like those sour candies you have t put up with the sour bitterness before you get the sweet. Jacob may appear as the silent type but its only because they keep their deeper inner feelings under wraps. This is why many people are suprised to find that Jacob is actually quite sensative. They have a trademark charm that makes for a trouble free friendship. However Jacobs sometimes tend to provoke jealousy. It is true that people either love Jacob or hate Jacob

Delilah- Delilah has a ready source of laughter. She is relaxed, flexable and fun-loving. She's ready for adventure especially when it comes to the outdoors. However when Delilah in engrossed in something its best not to bother her until its all clear that she is finished what she was concerntrating so hard on. Delilah also rather work on her own, so she is always in control.

Cicily- Cicily tends to be very charming and poliet even when things aren't going her way. Cicily is quite compassionate toward the less fourtunate. They can be quite serious about how that conduct their buisness and tend to choose careers where they can work solo. Cicilys enjoy a challenge due to having such a sharp mind and since they aren't particularly patient should avoid professions where they have to get up close and intimate. Cicily is well organized and aren't ones to fuss over anything thats out of place.

Daughter: Delilah

beautiful, charming, mischievous,a fem-fatale type

Me: Cicily

quiet, girly, soft looking/airy beauty, book worm, likable, kind|||Norah - probably a really sweet, down to earth woman with a lot of moral values, goes to church every sunday, helps out at her kids schools, doesn't argue very much with her husband, free spirit, stands up for what she believes in but is still very sweet and kind

Simon - would have a more grumpy demeanor, he would be very intelligent, reads books a lot, doesn't settle for less than the best, is rich and sort of snobby, isn't willing to change for anyone, set in his ways

Chloe - probably a very bubbly, outgoing girl, free spirit, popular in school, stereotypical blonde high school girl, not very bright but always happy, maybe is a cheerleader or a gymnast or dancer or something girly, doesn't play any sports, has a lot of friends and gets along with everyone

Jacob - your typical high school guy (or younger), eats a lot but gains no weight, plays soccer or football or whatever, maybe plays baseball in the spring, doesn't stand out as being really good looking or really smart or very good at anything but is just average in everything he does

Delilah - sweet, shy girl that is intelligent but doesn't branch out very often, she's pretty average as well but usually is ahead in school, also reads a lot, has a few good friends to confide in

Cicily - I've never heard of the name, it sounds great, where are you from?

Diffrence between name meanings and laungauge?

what is the difference between some 1s name meaning the the language associated with it?

example:

Adeline (French) means Noble/Kind

i searched it up on many french to english dictionaries but nothing comes up.

so why is it that a name doesn't share a common translation?|||First answer is great.....but I'd just highlight one example (where i know the history of the word....the etymology):

Look at the name in Hebrew which sounded something like YEOSHUA.

It moved to English from the Hebrew writing (mainly the Old Testament of the Bible) as........Joshua.

It moved to Greek and was pronounced something like EEE-YA-SHWA (Ieosus). This Greek version of the name was then transferred to just about every language in the world.

The Spanish say HAY-ZOOS

In English we say Jesus.

Yes....Jesus is exactly the same name as Joshua.....in origin. The only difference is that 'Jesus' as we know it went through Greek before arriving at the English language.

The true root of the root name (from the original Hebrew) has a meaning - "Jehovah is Salvation". The original Hebrew name had the root of the divine name (God's name - Jehovah), like practically ever Hebrew name (e.g.: AaliYAH (Go up to Jehovah) or EliJAH (Jehovah is God)....or HallileuJAH (praise Jehovah)). Finding it in the words we now know now is pretty tough though......since 'Jesus', and likely 'Adeline', aren't all that close to the original forms the 'meanings' come from.

Finding the real meaning of words in English can be tough....since this language has gone through so many hoops. English is a derivative of German....which itself isn't even all that directly related to the source of many of our names (Latin/Greek/Hebrew), etc.

Words and names have usually gone through many hoops before getting to English.|||Because French and other European languages like German and English are very evolved languages. The words we have now are not the same we had even 1 or 2 hundred years ago. When those names were created from those languages, they came from actual words. Besides, a lot of European languages came from Latin, Egyptian, Greek or other languages. Also from the native languages that no longer exist anymore.

In other languages like Chinese and Japanese, the language hasn't changed in years. They add words but they don't modify existing ones thus the names nowadays still mean a literal word as they did 2000 years ago.

Edit: For an example, Adeline (which is German btw) means noble. The Modern German word for noble is "Adlig." See how much similarity it bears to Adeline?|||It means it originated in France and it was given a meaning. For example David is Hebrew and it means beloved. Another example is Lorena. It is Latin and it means "crowned with laurels" People weren't given just words for names that is why you can't find it in a dictionary. Some names like Daisy are actually a name and a word so you can find it in a dictionary but other names are made up of roots. I know I am kind of confusing because this is a weird question.

Anyone good with name meanings and backgrounds?

My last name is Chappell and I don't know anything about it. Never knew my father and now that I'm 29, I'd like to identify with the last name I gave my son. It would be nice to be able to explain the name to him|||Just from looking at it, I would say that your ansestor that the Normans rounded up and put in the Doomsday Book was a Chaplin.|||Chappell - Name Meaning and Origin

The boy's and girl's name Chappell \ch(a)-ppe-ll\ is a variant of Chappel.

It is of Old English origin, and its meaning is "one who works at the chapel". Occupational name.

The baby name Chappell sounds like Shepply, Shepley, Shipley and Sheplea. Other similar baby names are Chappelin, Cappel and Capell.

Chappell is a very rare male first name and a very popular surname (source: 1990 U.S. Census). Displayed below is the baby name popularity trend for the boy's name Chappell. Click here to compare Chappell with related baby names.|||Chappell

English: topographic name for someone who lived near a chapel, from Middle English chapel(l)e 鈥榗hapel鈥? via Old French, from Late Latin capella, originally a diminutive of capa 鈥榟ood鈥? 鈥榗loak鈥? but later transferred to the sense 鈥榗hapel鈥? 鈥榮anctuary鈥? with reference to the shrine at Tours where the cloak of St. Martin was preserved as a relic.

Americanized spelling of French Chappelle.

Hope this helps.

When you pull up the website put the name Chappell in the World Connect Block or you might just put your father's full name. If you see something that interest you, probe on the name and you will pull up a screen that will give you the name and email address of the submitter.

Now be careful about taking as fact everything you see in family trees on any website, free or paid. Most of the information is not documented. The information is user submitted. Even when you see the same information over and over by different submitters, that does not necessarily mean it is right. There are people copying without verifying.

Since you did not mention if your dad is still living, I am unclear on what info you do have.

If he is not alive, you should be able to order his death certificate, and learn who his parents were. As long as you can start working with historical records, you should be able to trace his ancestry and learn specifics about them.

www.rootsweb.com has a guide to starting research, with more in depth explanations of how to do it. You may not care to learn anything more that where the name came from, hundreds of years ago.. or you might want to learn more. I personally think knowing the individual persons is far more satisfying.

DO you think people forget to name their kids good names with meanings?

What I mean really is I get tired of meeting people with random names and they do not know what their name means? I would not name my kids names because they sound good only how about you?|||For me, the meaning of a name is just an added bonus (provided it's a nice meaning)

I do agree though that it is rather disheartening to grow up and ask why your name was chosen, only to be given the answer "it sounded nice at the time". A name with special meaning and significance to the family is a much nicer choice than one that just sounded attractive|||I think your question is interesting, but that its just your view. You look back to when people were last named Tailor becuase the father was a Tailor, almost creating a caste system by name. Kind of like a fancy name, like that Thurston Howell III. Then you have Scandinavian countries, where all the sons all got the same names and they are over run with Hans Hansens -seriously this happened, and the govt stepped in.

Anyway, as I said I think its interesting. Freakanomics - the book - also has some interesting correlations.|||I wouldnt either! I know a girl named Carlene and it means man. and there is 1000000000 or more Carlas in this world and I bet you that allot of them dont know that their name means man.|||i dont think that the actual 'meaning' behind the name defines who the person is at all so i dont really take them into consideration when naming my child. i just choose something that fits with our family.|||Reminds me of the scene from Pulp Fiction where the cabbie asks Bruce Willis what his character's name (Butch) means, and he replies "I'm American, honey. Our names don't mean s**t." ;) Self-edited, but you get the point. LOL

That said, I think a name can have meaning beyond the basic etymology. Especially since the meanings of so many wonderful, classic choices are actually unknown (often lost to time long ago), or the commonly-accepted one is obviously shaky and/or highly-debated (think Mary here ... because the "bitter" reference often listed in "baby name" books or sites is actually the least likely root).

In other words, while a great, solid meaning is a wonderful bonus, I wouldn't trust any random source to make or break a name based on a possibly-inaccurate meaning. ;)

Conversely, even a name with a valid, but less-than-stellar, meaning can have any number of redeeming qualities that would still make it a wonderful choice. For example ...

Cecilia - derived from Latin caecus, and therefore meaning "blind." Okay. But Cecilia was also the patron said of music. So perhaps it would appeal to a musically-inclined Catholic, having both the religious and harmonious appeal. ;)

Thomas - well-known meaning of "twin." But such a popular-classic name, I seriously doubt most would find it odd on a singleton!

Dorian - generally not given one definite, agreed-upon meaning, but still an attractive choice to parents appreciative of an underused classic, or simply for the obvious literary reference.

Imogen - again, this one was originally a TYPO (of Innogen), but its Shakespearean connection and long-standing usage as a valid Celtic name still make it an appealing, even classic option.

Eleanor - like Mary, a lovely classic name with a long-debated meaning. Often related to the Greek helene or helios simply based on its similarity to Helena (giving it the torch/corposant or sun meanings often seen in less-than-accurate books or sites), but also linked to elios (compassion), Germanic Aldenor (old north) and Adalnor (noble north), Breton Azenor and Aamor (love) or even simply given the non-meaning meaning "the other Aenor," via the "alia Aenor" theory. But per that same theory, the name itself was also borne by Eleanor of Aquitaine and, more modernly, Eleanor Roosevelt ... two strong, feminine namesakes, to say the least! And for some, even the less literal/substantial pop culture sort of references would be a plus: music (The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby), film (the sought-after car from Gone in 60 Seconds), etc.

Or perhaps one simply wants to name a child after beloved Gramma Mary, or Uncle Thomas, and the literal meaning is irrelevant.

After all, there's more to "meaning" than simple etymology. ;)|||My husband and I chose a name that had meaning to us and to our family. What's weird is that my daughter is growing into the type of girl that can carry her name well. She is fiery and passionate. She has become little Scarlett.|||well i dont think that the name meaning is really important. my daughters name is olivia and it means olive tree. but i love the name olivia marie and it flows good and is a very pretty name.|||who cares..its not your kids..so don't worry about it|||I think people just carried away with trends or naming their baby with unique names.

i mean i like nt so popular names but wouldnt choose a name that people have never heard of. the poor kids spend the whole time spelling the name out.|||I'm not a big fan of made-up names, but I don't think parents should name their child based just on meaning. It should sound good first of all, and then the parents should research the meaning to make sure it doesn't have a negative connotation. For example, I think Trista is a pretty name, but it means tumult. I wouldn't wish that on my daughter or myself. Likewise, the name Mallory is pretty, but it means luckless. I'd stay away from that one too.|||I do not agree that a childs name has to have meaning to anyone else but the parents naming the child. After all... If the parents did not love the name, the child would not be named that. To each parent, I'm sure the child name has meaning. To a casual person on the street? Probably not...|||How do you know there names dont mean anything just because they dont mean anything to you doesnt mean it didnt to there parents! People dont have to pick names out of a book, bible, or after people! Personally i think its up to the child parents what they name there kid and if they see a name on a ceral box and they like it then so be it thats what they will name there kids! I get tired of meeting people like you who like to judge every little thing about people!|||I think there should be a combination between meaning and sound. I think literal meaning names are disgusting like Grace, Charity, Heaven, Hope, etc. But I also think it is stupid when people make up names for their children. I go to school with a girl named Amanee and she always tells everyone how it's her own because her mom made it up.

I don't necessarily think there should be a meaning behind all names, but it does get old when names are totally made up and ridiculous.

I want to name my daughter Lilly because it has always been my favorite name, and because my real first name is Yuri, which means Lily flower in Japanese. Perfect coincidence!|||There are so many ridiculous names out there and people just put random words together and think it sounds cool, I don't get it!

I am 33 weeks and my husband and I didn't even have to think about what we were going to name our little girl! She will have my grandmother's name, who passed away! It's a bit old fashioned but it will have meaning to us and help us share with her her roots!|||I think people forget about phonics when they mess with the spelling of their child's name.

Meanings are not that significant these days. I like my grandmother's middle name, Elizabeth, which means "God Is My Oath". That meaning isn't going to make me keep or change wanting to name a child after my grandmother. Know what I mean?|||My husband and I named our daughter a name that we both liked, the meaning of it was secondary. Some cultures do look at the meaning of the name first and then decide if that fits their child. But to say that children should not be named something random without going into the deeper meaning is silly. I say, name your child a name that you like and if you know what it means, all the better.|||I named my son the same name as myself, and all the other people in McShloob (on the male side), Goofy (McShloob)

I think its original, and probably has some meaning to it....

Although he does get some trouble from kids at school :(

If you laugh at my name, you are laughing at everything i stand for, and you are a cruel, cruel person

Sorry for going a little off topic, but yes, i do agree with the question.

Regards,

Goofy McShloob|||Well my kids names have very specific meanings and are special names. However I would hope that before a parent gives a child a name they would find the meaning first. What are the full thoughts of Jesus Christ or just Jesus or Christ Jesus, name formation, meanings?

What are the full thoughts of Jesus Christ or just Jesus or Christ Jesus name formation, meanings?|||The full thoughts of Jesus would be the full thoughts of His Father since they are one... I don't know the full thoughts of God, only some! But I want to know more.

The New Testament was written in Greek, and the name "Jesus" here means the same in Greek as the Hebrew name "Joshua." "Joshua" means literally God is salvation. So the angel's message to Joseph was "You shall call His name 'God is salvation,' for He will save His people from their sins." That name tells us of Jesus' purpose in God's plan-that it is through Him that God saves humanity.

"You shall call His name 'God is salvation,' for He will save His people from their sins."

I would say this can sum it up...

The history of ruby mining dates back more than 2,500 years ago, and today the coveted gemstone is found in Burma, Thailand, Kenya, Tanzania, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Cambodia, Kenya, Tanzania, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the United States.

Called the "Lord of Gems" by ancient Hindus, rubies are one of the most highly prized gems throughout history. The fiery glow of rubies is said to come from the gemstone's internal and eternal flame. For this reason, the gift of a ruby is a symbol of everlasting love. If worn on the left hand, ancient lore has it that the Ruby will bring good fortune. It is a perfect engagement ring gemstone and a popular alternative to or addition to diamond engagement bands.

Baby name meanings, where did they start?

I love the name Jacob but it has a terrible meaning.. It means supplanter .. Just wondering where all these name meanings started, how far back do they go. Why does jacob mean supplanter?|||JACOB

One of the twin sons of Isaac and Rebekah. The brother of Esau, he was known also as Israel %26lt;Gen. 32:28%26gt;.

Jacob was born in answer to his father's prayer %26lt;Gen. 25:21%26gt;, but he became the favorite son of his mother %26lt;25:28%26gt;. He was nicknamed Jacob because, at the birth of the twins, "his hand took hold of Esau's heel" %26lt;25:26%26gt;. According to the accounts in Genesis, Jacob continued to "take hold of" the possessions of others-- his brother's birthright %26lt;25:29-34%26gt;, his father's blessing %26lt;27:1-29%26gt;, and his father-in-law's flocks and herds %26lt;30:25-43; 31:1%26gt;.

And so Jacob means "supplanter" as well.

As far as names go in general, of course we need a way to distinguish ourselves from each other. So words were used for names that described the child, or at least the parents' hopes for the child--whether the child would be large, small, peaceful, war-like, etc. People from different countries used words from their own languages, and so different names, pronunciations, etc. were created.|||Well Jacob was a man in the Old Testament of the Bible, so that one goes back to pretty much the beginning of time. Someone please help.|||Benvolio sounds a lot like an Italian word for good, he's the calmer friend of Romeo, there's more to this, but you may be more familiar with Romeo and Juliet than I am.

Mercutio sounds like mercury, quicksilver, which was thought of having properties related to change, much like Mercutio's moods.

Miranda from the Tempest can be anagramed into something similar to admired, and may in fact have been based off one of his daughter.

Caliban, can be rearranged to spell canibal... similar to cannibal, no? And seeing how colonialism was happeing around that time in history...

Hope this helps you start your search.
