Are Name Meanings Important to You?

I know that these days, when picking out names, most people choose for how nice the name is, not the meaning. But I was just wondering whether the meaning of a name you like puts you off. Like, the name Madison means Son of Maude (and this name is mostly used for girls), the names Marie and Mae mean Bitter, etc.

Also, do you ever try and match the meanings of the first and middle name? Like, the name Tristan means Bold, and Sirius means Bright Star, so together the whole name means a star that's bold and bright. Or does no-one really care about meanings any more? Are Name Meanings Important to You?
For me i think names meaning reflect on the person, even if the effect is minimum it still there.

So yes, i do care about the meaning of the name and I wouldnt choose a name if it has a bad meaning, even if it sounds pretty.

One thing is also important to note, is that a name can have a meaning in your language and another meaning in another language this happens a lot to lots of people who dont research the name before naming their child.

I dont care about matching meaning, as long as the names have a good meaning, but if it happens by chance that the names meanings match then i wouldnt mind it as long as it doesnt sound cheesy. Example:

Aurora Noelle

Stella Natalie

Blake Alexander

in the previous names i dont think the meaning and the matching is obvious, but in some other names it is obvious which i hate, like Autumn Rose or Savannah Raine and so on
Well me personally, I like the name and if the meaning is good too then that's a plus!

I really like Vaeda, Verona and Gloria for girls and Gabriel, Asher and Micah for boys and then found out their meanings are

Vaeda- Eternal Knowledge (Sanskrit)

Verona- Truth (Italian)

Gloria- Glory (Latin)

Gabriel- God is my Strength (Hebrew)

Asher- Blessed, Happy (Hebrew)

Micah- Who is like God? (Hebrew)

and thats a plus because they're all great names plus great meanings!

if the meaning of a name I like is "Eternal Damnation" I wouldn't use that name at all.Are Name Meanings Important to You?
I don't think that the traditional meanings of names matter much to me. I choose names based off of the personal meaning they have for me and my family. For example, my daughter's name is Lilly JoAnn. My MIL passed away a month before she was born so we decided to give her a name that reminded us of her grandma. Lily was her absolute favorite flower and we combined my husbands best friend's name (Jo) with his mothers name (Ann). Are Name Meanings Important to You?
I don't search out meanings unless I'm curious about a name in general....If I like a name then I go with it,the meaning is not as important as my liking it...What I find to be more of an influence is if the name I hear reminds me of someone else I know has that same name and they have a negative effect on me due to their personality or some nasty thing they have done or said....so I avoid that name...=)
yes and no... I was going to name our child with the initials JAG, Which is the the initials for military attorney. Come to find out that Aaron means "Seeker of justice". Of course it turns out we are having a girl instead...
Name Meanings are an absolute for me.....your child's character is it's meaning behind the name their given.
Nope.
