In Finland, 'Kari' is a male name, derived from the Greek Makarios (or Macarius), a Christian saint's name.

In Norway, 'Kari' is a very popular female name. This name is diminutive of 'Katharine', (maybe) meaning "pure". The corresponding Swedish and German name is 'Karin'.

In Iceland, Kári is a male name, based on a Scandinavian god of wind of the same name. The corresponding Norwegian male name is 'K?re' or 'Kaare'.

'Katherine' is derived from the Greek name Αικατερ?νη (Aikaterínē), of debated origin and meaning. Theories include:

- from the Greek "catharsis", meaning 'to purge' or 'to cleanse' - 'pure/purity of emotion'

- from ?κ?τερο? (hekáteros), meaning 'each of the two', 'singly'

- from the goddess Hecate.

- from the Greek word α?κ?α (aikía) 'injurious treatment'

'Kari' can come also from "Carrie" which is a pet form of 'Caroline', the female form of the name "Carl", from the Germanic words "karl" : 'strong' and "lind" : 'gentle'

'Ann' comes from 'Anna', which is a Latin form of the Hebrew name 'Hannah' (Hebrew: ?????? or Channah), meaning "favor" or "grace."

Kariann (or just kari) means nothing in greek and there isn't a name that even sounds a bit like it(maybe Katerina but not really).Agni means pure in greek and it's a name too but not grace. The greek word for grace is hari(kinda sounds like Harry!) Now there are other names that symbolizes those two -like names of ancient Gods and Goddesses that represented them- but I guess that's another story... I hope I helped.Name Meanings?
I would think that the Kari/Cary part of the name is a variation of "Carrie," which in turn is a rather old-fasioned nickname for Caroline, the feminine form of Carolus, the Latin version of Charles. You may be thinking of the Greek word koure or kore (with the e pronounced ay), which means pure and is the source of the English name Cora. But you're right about the Ann part!
